Walk, run, cycle or move 80km / 50 miles with our Step-tember Challenge and help young people in Kenya get the training and skills they deserve for a brighter, fairer future.

September usually means back to school. 1.5 million young people under 25 in Kenya are out of education and unemployed, living in poverty and struggling to get by.

Young people, particularly young girls, are at high risk of exploitation including rape, child marriage and teenage pregnancy. They’re also more likely to be coerced into drugs and crime.

‘With no other options for education or work, I turned to sex work to put a roof over my head. As a street girl, I was harassed and abused by the big boys and I became pregnant. I thought about committing suicide as I felt like this life has no meaning and my child’s life would be even more tragic than mine.’ – Seed of Hope student

Step-tember Challenge

This September you can step up and take on the challenge of walking, running, cycling or moving 80km / 50 miles. This is the distance between our Seed of Hope centres in the Dagoretti informal settlement (slum community) in Nairobi to the rural and remote centre in Kariti, Murang’a County. You can do a little bit every day, or go big at the weekends – do it your way, whatever works for you!

It’s so easy to get involved:

  1. Download and print our free Step-tember Planner to track your distance each week.
  2. Set up your JustGiving fundraising page and ask your friends and family to sponsor you.
  3. Get moving and cover 80km / 50 miles in September.

You can step up for young people in Kenya and allow them to have the opportunity to build a secure, happy future for themselves, free from poverty.

Your Impact

  • £6 could fund a cooked lunch for a student for a whole month so they don’t have to learn whilst hungry
  • £25 could fund a month of training for a young person
  • £150 could fund a 6 month course for a young person
  • £233 could fund a computer so students can learn essential computer skills

“I was not satisfied with the life I was living. I wanted to do a vocational training course, so I could rely on the skills even in old age, but I could never afford it, until I heard of the free vocational courses offered at Seed of Hope. Leaving drugs behind, thanks to counselling, has been a huge milestone for me and with completing the skills course I am sure of a dignified future.’’ – Seed of Hope graduate 2022

Our Seed of Hope training and business skills programme is there for young people when they are at a crucial crossroads in their lives, which will determine their future. For just £25 a month on average we can provide them with a training course, and tailored support including counselling, to give them the skills, qualifications and confidence they need to secure a job or start a business and build a secure future, free from poverty. You can help young people step up and take this path.

You can step up and support a young person to access a free Seed of Hope training and business skills course to set them up for a happy, safe, financially stable future.  We believe all young people deserve an opportunity to thrive, and you can be their step up to a brighter, fairer future.
